Ohio Christian University (OCU) was established in 1948 as a baccalaureate institution. Affiliated with the Churches of Christ in Christian Union, its main goal was to train ministers for the church. The university was originally named as the Mount of Praise Bible College and then became the Circleville Bible College before it received its regional accreditation to become the OCU.

Beliefs

Ohio Christian University believes in one God who exists in three persons – the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It believes in the Bible as God’s infallible Word and in the true universal Church as the Body of Christ and Temple of the Holy Spirit. As such, OCU prepares its students to serve in the church through the bible-focused education they gain in the Wesleyan tradition.

Location

The main campus of OCU is located in Circleville, Ohio where the traditional undergraduate program is offered. Those enrolled in the adult degree program attend classes in other locations.

Tuition

Each full-time student is expected to pay a tuition fee of $8,050 per semester covering 12-16 credit hours. This is equivalent to $575 per hour. This does not include the student support fees of $525 for 7 hours and above as well as room and board that costs $3,443 per semester.

Financial Aid

Ohio Christian University understands that not all students can afford to pay for a college education. As such, it has a financial aid office that helps financially-challenged students, whether full time or part-time, avail of assistance in the form of scholarship, grants and student loans. FAFSA online registration is required for those who would like to apply.

Student Population

Ohio Christian University had some 2,400 students as of fall 2011. Of this number, 600 students were enrolled in the undergraduate program. The total student population is composed of 55 percent females and 45 percent males. The student to faculty ratio is 15:1.

Ohio Christian University Academic Areas of Study

Various degree programs are offered at OCU. These include the traditional undergraduate, the adult degree and the graduate programs. Its Bachelor of Arts degree program offer majors in biblical studies, business management, agribusiness, Christian ministries, Church planting, music and teacher education, disaster management, psychology, worship arts and youth ministries, and substance abuse counseling, among others.

The school’s Associate of Arts degree program offers concentrations in business management and interdisciplinary studies.

Primary Accreditation

OCU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association, the Ohio Board of Regents and the Association for Biblical Higher Education. The university is also a member of the Ohio College Association, Service Members Opportunity Colleges and the Evangelical Training Association. It is approved as well by the IRS for social security benefits for eligible students and allowed to train veterans.

Athletic Team

OCU’s athletic team is known as the Trailblazers. It competes in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic (NCCAA) Division II in various sports such as basketball (men’s and women’s), baseball, cross country (men’s and women’s), soccer (men’s and women’s), golf (men’s) and softball (women’s).
