Oklahoma Wesleyan University

Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU) is an evangelical institution located in Bartesville, Oklahoma. Established by the Wesleyan Church, it provides higher education in a Christian setting. Its former name was Bartlesville Wesleyan College and it became known as it is now in August 2001. According to a 2011 CBS money report, Oklahoma Wesleyan ranks first in terms of having excellent professor staff.

The Oklahoma Wesleyan University provides students with a liberal arts community that puts Jesus Christ first and foremost in line with its motto “A university where Jesus is Lord.” The institution believes in Jesus Christ as the Son of god, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and End. It also honors the Scripture, the Truth and Wisdom.

Oklahoma Wesleyan University Tuition

The total estimated cost of attending college at OKWU can range from $15,000 to more than $21,000. This applies to those enrolled in the bachelor degree programs. A master’s degree costs higher ranging from $20,000 to $23,000 for a full year. This already includes the tuition and other fees.

Financial Aid

OKWU’s Office of Student Financial Aid is in charge of helping students find the right sources that can fund their college education. The institution offers a Federal Student Aid Program to make education more affordable to its learners. Students just need to fill out the online FAFSA form to determine their eligibility.

The Oklahoma Wesleyan University has an average student population of 900 students. Of this number, 420 are enrolled in the main campus while the 480 are spread across other OKWU campuses in the state of Oklahoma.

OKWU currently has seven main programs – humanities, science and math, social and behavioral, business, education, nursing as well as religion and philosophy. It also offers 35 majors covered under its traditional program.

Majors available in the undergraduate program are English, Communication Arts, Music, Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Math, Science Education, Psychology, History, Political Science, Social Studies, Business, Management and Leadership, Marketing and various education specializations.

Primary Accreditation

This evangelical university is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. OKWU’s school of education, notably its bachelor’s degrees offered at the Bartlesville campus, is also accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The institution’s business programs have also obtained special accreditation from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.

Oklahoma Wesleyan University Athletics

Oklahoma Wesleyan University has an athletic department that offers trainings in various sports such as basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, track and field, cross country and golf. Its main goal is to encourage excellence not only in sports but as well as in the students’ spiritual, academic and social life. The student athletes from this university are known as the Eagles.
